Celebrating a Career of Service - Kinston Housing Authority

After 23 years of dedicated service at Kinston Housing Authority, Rhonda Abbott Executive Director, has announced her retirement.

Rhonda began her career in affordable housing in October 2000 as the Director of Administrative Services/CFO for KHA. Bringing her expertise in public accounting, Rhonda served as Director of Administrative Services/CFO until 2003, when she was promoted to Deputy Director/CFO.

In 2005, Rhonda was named Executive Director of KHA. During this time Rhonda was able to step into leadership roles within CCHRCO, serving as CCHRCO President 2009/2010. In addition to her work within CCHRCO, Rhonda has also served as a Board Member (2020-2023) and Treasurer (2022/2023) for Housing Benefits Plan.

Throughout her career, Rhonda is most proud of the improved resident experience she has been able to cultivate at KHA. Under her leadership KHA has invested in New Playground Equipment, Increased and Improved Parking, Improved Safety Lighting, and Security Cameras. Additionally, residents now have the opportunity to participate in the agency's FSS or Homeownership programs.

In her retirement, Rhonda plans to live in Grifton, NC, with her husband Walter. They plan to travel and spend lots of time visiting their daughters and their families, most especially their six grandchildren.
